Inside, ancient machinery continues working because nobody has successfully authorised it to stop. Quantum computers are frightened of large numbers. Unapproved repairs are recorded as procedural deviations. Even a toaster can be reassigned if it remains useful for long enough.

Finding Bob should be straightforward.

Unfortunately, Bob is no longer addressable, the system has begun counting, and every correct decision makes the situation considerably worse.
